Pupil Achievement
We are extremely proud of the high standards our children achieve at Marlcliffe. Year after year, our children achieve strong academic outcomes, with attainment in English and maths typically above, and often significantly above, national averages. These results reflect the high expectations we have for every child, the quality of teaching across school and our commitment to ensuring that our children develop secure foundations for the next stage of their education.
While we are proud of our academic success, achievement at Marlcliffe is about much more than results alone. We provide a broad, ambitious and balanced curriculum, enriched by a wide range of opportunities and experiences that enable every child to discover their strengths, develop their talents and shine.
Our ambition is for every child to achieve their very best. We carefully monitor achievement across subjects and pupil groups, using this information to continually strengthen our provision and ensure that all children are supported and challenged to reach their full potential.
Alongside academic success, we place great importance on developing confident, responsible and compassionate young people who are well prepared for their next steps and for life beyond Marlcliffe.
- Children in the Foundation Stage are assessed throughout their Reception year to support continuous development.
- In Year 1, children are assessed on their phonics knowledge; those who do not meet the expected threshold receive additional support and are reassessed in Year 2.
- In Year 4, children complete a multiplication tables check to assess recall.
- Finally, in Year 6, children undertake Key Stage 2 SATs, which include assessments in reading, writing, maths and grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
