Year 1 2021 - 2022
Welcome to Year 1
Welcome back after half term break. Miss Whittaker and I hope you had a restful time. This half term our topic is called Pirates! We will be finding out about Grace Darling and the very first lifeboats that were used. We will also be learning the names of the seven continents and five oceans of the world. In Science, we will be learning all about habitats and how animals have adapted to live in them, with a particular focus on ocean habitats. In DT the children will be designing and sewing their very own pirate puppets!
And, of course, this half term is also a very exciting one for the children! We have our Children in Need fundraising day where the children can come dressed up as someone who inspires them, or in non-uniform (Friday 19th November). We will also be doing some lovely activities around Christmas time too, and we might even get a visit from a very special person towards the end of this half term!!
Have a great half term,
If you have any questions for either Miss Whittaker or Mrs Sharman, please email school at email@example.com

Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school for these days. PE kit is; black shorts, white t-shirt, pumps and jogging bottoms for outdoor PE. Please check that your child's name is in their kit.
Please ask your child which group they are in for spellings before choosing which ones your child needs.
Robins, Sparrows, Goldfinches
In school we use a phoneme chart to help your child learn the spelling pattern for each phoneme. This can be used to support reading and writing. Please encourage your child to talk to you about this and keep it at home for your child to access.
To help you pronounce the phonemes correctly please look at Mr T's YouTube channel for videos and activities.
